How to improve your business's ranking in Google local search results?

Local search is increasingly important as people search for businesses or services based on location, either online or on mobile devices. The best examples of such searches are e.g. Zlatarstvo Celje or Pizzerija Ljubljana. The most relevant businesses are displayed among the hits in Google Maps or Google Search.

How does Google show local results?

In the past, Google has shown 7 companies among the local results. Recently, however, some restrictions have been introduced and it is currently only showing the top 3 results, as shown in the image below. For more hits, you need to click on "More places". As you can imagine, very few people actually click on this link. So the first three places are where you want your business to appear.

 

How can I improve my chances on local search?

Now more than ever, it is important to confirm your Google Business Profile for each location where you do business. Once confirmed, you will need to optimise your display by adding content such as contact details, photos, opening hours, and adding relevant attributes, categories and keyword descriptions that best represent your business.

This can significantly increase your chances of ranking in Google search results and maps.

Your customers' opinions matter. 

Your customers' reviews are one of the most important aspects for ranking your business and attracting new customers. It is recommended that you encourage customers to review your business, service or products, as Google displays customer reviews and ratings next to your listing (see image below). Research shows that 88 % of consumers check customer reviews before making a purchase decision. Other directories such as Facebook, make this possible, so the opinions of your customers are definitely something you should not ignore.

 

 

Add data to other maps and directories.

It is very important to add the same content to other maps such as Here, Apple Maps or TomTom, as their data is displayed in many web portals and mobile apps.

When you sign in, make sure you enter the same information everywhere, especially your company name, address and NAP (Name Address Phone number). Read more Here.

We recommend that you first enter the data into Google and then synchronise it with the data on your website and other places.
